When a pet passes away, Mandai Pets Sanctuary ensures the process is handled with dignity and care. The cremation procedure generally follows these steps:
Step 1: Collection of body
Your pet’s body will be collected and kept in a refrigerated cooler before the cremation. This will help to prevent decomposition.
Step 2: Cremation
The body will be removed from the cooler and placed in the incinerators. It will be subjected to high temperatures between 760°C to 990°C. The heat will then reduce the organic matter to dust and dried bones. This process typically takes about 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the size of the pet.
Step 3: Removal of metal objects
The remains will be cooled down before metal objects such as microchips can be removed. It will be done with the help of a magnet or manual inspection.
Step 4: Pulverisation
Bone fragments will be pulverised and reduced to fine, grey particles, known as the ashes. They will then be carefully placed in a plastic bag. Owners can choose to place the ashes in urns, bury them or scatter them at sea.
